Our most productive variety and very easy to grow! Katterman continues to yield lovely healthy bulbs that outperforms every variety we grow. We have shipped this garlic all over the United States and get rave reviews from our customers. It stores very well, keeping until early Spring in proper conditions.

Katterman Garlic produces nice heads with plump large cloves. Typically 3-5 cloves per head.  Named after Rick Katterman of Dearborn Michigan who gifted us his seed stock of this unknown porcelain variety when we began farming in 2010.  Katterman is our top pick for any gardener or farmer looking to establish a garlic crop of their own and home cooks who love roasting entire heads and prefer larger cloves for cooking. The flavor is spicy when raw and mellows out when cooked. With it's larger sized bulbs, this is a favorite for easy peeling and roasting.

Grows very well in cold climates, it's our most vigorous grower and comparable to German Hardy and Music in size, taste, and growing habits. This is a hardneck from the porcelain family. Produces large thick garlic scapes in mid to late June.

Seed is graded primarily for health and size. Seed is 2" + in diameter and typically will contain around 5-8 bulbs of garlic (20-40 cloves) per pound. We ship out largest heads first with smallest sizes towards the end of the season. Culinary garlic is graded as eating garlic and is smaller in size. Typically 10 bulbs in a pound. All garlic can be planted and/or eaten.

Seed Garlic has been tested negative for Garlic Bloat Nematode, White Rot, and other diseases from the University of Maine. Certified Organic by Vermont Organic Farmers (VOF).

Please note that the 2025 crop was smaller in size due to weather/ drought conditions. We are expecting the majority of seed grade bulbs to be on average 2 inches in diameter. Culinary sizes can be planted.

0.5 lb Seed Grade Bulbs $13 (3-4 bulbs) Sold Out 2025

1 lb Seed Grade Bulbs $26 (7-8  bulbs) Sold Out 2025

0.5 lb Culinary Garlic, small/medium $10 (5 bulbs)

1 lb Culinary Garlic Small/Medium size $20 (typically 10 bulbs)

Our farm does our best to accurately represent the garlic crop but pre-selling it in July before we are able to fully grade it in September may result in differing quantities and sizes. We appreciate your understanding.

Garlic Gold that Shines Every Year

Katterman Porcelain Garlic is simply outstanding. The cloves are generously sized, easy to work with, and packed with bold, rich flavor that elevates any dish. Whether roasted, minced, or used raw, the taste is consistently amazing.

And year after year, Adam and Laura make the experience even better. They’re incredibly reliable, friendly, and passionate about what they do. It’s rare to find such consistently excellent garlic—and such genuinely wonderful people to buy it from.

Good garlic that never lasts long enough-need more

I like it enough to have driven to the Bennington garlic festival to add to my order

Growing Garlic

Extremely pleased with the garlic I planted last fall. It was harvested this summer and I'm almost out since I give some to friends and family and consume a ton myself. I already have my Quill Hill garlic order to plant later this month.
